Director Gail Harvey answers 19 Gravitas questions with Alan Gratias
Gail Harvey is an award-winning television and film director whose latest feature film, the thriller Never Saw it Coming, was written by County resident Linwood Barclay, based on his novel. It was recently nominated for Best World Showcase Feature Film at the Soho International Film Festival in New York.
Her documentary film about musician Rickie Lee Jones, entitled The Other Side of Desi, premiered at the Raindance Film Festival in London, England in 2016. Gail’s feature film Looking is the Original Sin won best international feature at the New York International Film Festival. At the Female Eye Film Festival, Gail was awarded Honorary Director, Best in the Biz award for 2014.
She is currently directing the new Netflix/CBC show Northern Rescue, starring Billy Baldwin, and has directed television shows for Private Eyes, Dark Matter, Heartland, Lost Girl, Republic of Doyle, and Murdoch Mysteries, as well as directing all episodes of HBO’s The Line, and Four Extraordinary Women and Home by Christmas movies for Lifetime Network.
When she first worked in film as a photographer, she was hired on a CBC show Dieppe which was shot in the County and fell in love with the area. “My hobby became staying at Isaiah Tubbs and looking at real estate. I bought my place 18 years ago when vineyards were only a dream.”
One last question, I plead. “What secret to a successful marriage would Gail like to share.”
“I don’t know the answer to that,” she replied, “I haven’t figured out the secret yet.”
